Meet the knitter behind every beanie in the maternity ward
For six years, Margaret has quietly made sure no baby leaves her local hospital without something handmade.

Margaret started knitting beanies the year her first grandchild was born. She made one, then another for the baby in the next bed, and then she kept going.
Now a bag of tiny beanies arrives at the maternity ward every few weeks. Each one has a small tag that says “Made with love by a neighbour.”
The midwives say parents often ask who made them. Margaret prefers they don’t know.
“I just like knowing they’ve got something warm that someone made for them.”
We shared Margaret’s story with her permission, after a nurse on the ward told us about her.
